We had some frolic-ing fun on the temple grounds on Mother's Day. :)
I Meant To Do My Work Today
by Richard LeGallienne
I meant to do my work today,
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand,
So what could I do but laugh and go?

ha! I love it. There's something about your poem that reminds me of what Emily Dickinson might have written. Of course, hers wouldn't have rhymed but its a similar sentiment, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteYes I agree. :) She's probably my favorite poet, so it's funny that you mentioned this poem is in her style. (How very astute.) :) Many of her poems rhymed too, but usually not exact rhymes. I like poems that feature nature and solitude. And this particular poem is a favorite because it captures a part of my personality that blends procrastination with an attitude of "living life is more important than completing tasks". :)
